Austin Glickman

Austin Glickman has been involved with the emergency services field since 2008 when he joined the City of Long Beach Volunteer Fire Department as a bright-eyed 18-year-old. Austin quickly realized his passion for helping others and went on to continue his volunteer service as an EMT for the State University of Cortland, his alma-mater. After graduating SUNY Cortland in 2012 with a Bachelors in History, Austin obtained his Masters in Public Administration for Emergency and Disaster Management from the Metropolitan College of New York. Prior to graduating in 2013, Austin accepted a position with the Mount Sinai Health System as an Emergency Management Project Coordinator. This is where he would stay up until he received “the call” from the New York City Police Department.

On July 7th, 2014, Austin Glickman raised his hand with over 1,000 other individuals as they swore-in to the New York City Police Academy. However, within just a few short weeks of starting his police career, the world would forever change following national news stories which fueled protests and riots throughout the country. Just three weeks prior to his academy graduation, NYPD Detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were assassinated in Brooklyn, an attack directly fueled by false media narratives. Following this tragic incident, Officer Glickman began formulating the idea for a national nonprofit organization which would eventually become Law Enforcement Officers Weekend.

Since then, Officer Glickman has continued his career with the NYPD, currently serving in the 101st Precinct of Far Rockaway, Queens. Prior to his current position, Austin worked in Police Headquarters within the Personnel Bureau, and started his career (and stayed for nearly 7 years) at the 30th Precinct, which covers West Harlem and Hamilton Heights in Manhattan as a Patrol Officer and Neighborhood Coordination Officer. Austin has been awarded multiple citations throughout his evolving career and strives to promote courtesy, professionalism and respect; the three pillars of the New York City Police Department.
